Arts and heritage
KMITL provides public access to buildings, monuments, or natural heritage landscapes of cultural significance for students, staff, and the general public such as Phrachomklao yard park, where the King Mongkut’s monument is situated, and the art gallery, which house all preserved arts and students’ work, of the Faculty of Architecture and the Central Library. KMITL also provides exhibition spaces for the art street exhibition every year, including the art market, stage play, music stage, etc. It is also a good stage to exchange and share their work and attitude to the public.
Library
We provide public access to libraries including books, publications, and electronic media and all knowledge materials. Not only students and staff can access to the libraries, but also staff from cooperated organizations, alumni, and the general public, both Thais and foreigners, as well. As follows the announcement of KMITL Central library, which 4th stipulation lists the people who can access the libraries.
Open spaces and green spaces
The institute provides sports fields, recreation parks, leisure garden corners for students, staff, and the public to have their relaxing exercise and rests. The institute also allows the general public to access open spaces and green spaces for free.
Public performances and intangible cultural heritage.
KMITL chorus group regularly performed at public events including the Christmas and New Year events and other special events. For example, they performed for the International Pre-School Centre (IPC) in 2018. There are many more performances that the chorus group has been contributed with others to perform the choirs in public.
Meanwhile, we fully recognize the importance and values of intangible cultural heritage. Local language short courses were provided for the freshmen. International and local food exhibitions were regularly organized for the students and staff members to exchange their food heritages to their KMITL colleagues and local communities. Students and staff members are encouraged to perform their local arts and performances during any special events such as New Year party.
Sustainable practices
KMITL encourages students and staff members to use environmentally friendly public transportation. An in-house innovated smart bicycle sharing system, so-called KMITL Bike, is provided on campus. Bicycles can be rented by a mobile application, KMITL Bike. Students were encouraged to participate in design of the new electric bicycle system via a design award. Bicycle lanes are provided in some part of the campus. A shuttle van service was also provided for a wider range commuting. All services are free.
A skywalk was built to provide pedestrian friendly paths for all students and staff to conveniently walk and connect to all sections of KMITL campus area. In addition, KMITL have been in the talk with the Bangkok Mass Transit System Public Company Limited (BTS) to plan for a monorail system to connect KMITL campus with the Airport Rail Link system. More extensive public transportation service (van and boat) and bike sharing program are included in the public transportation masterplan that would likely be completed in 2020.
We offer remote telecommuting between Chumphon and Ladkrabang campus for employees to reduce employee commuting such as executive meetings, employee training, employees educating about Sustainable Development Goals, etc. The advantage of remote telecommuting not only save working time, but also reduce the carbon dioxide emission, and reduce the cost of transportation at the same time.
Affordable housing for employees and students
The institute provides affordable housing for employees and students with accommodations and services. A modern room with free Wi-Fi, a private bathroom, toilets, and television. It is located near the campus in a walkable distance, so residents can use all KMITL facilities. It is comfortable and safe with CCTV to ensure great security.
In case of employees, an air-conditioned room for a family is 3,000 baht per month and 1,500 baht per month for a single. While a room without an air conditioner, a family and a single person are 2,000 baht and 1,000 baht per month, respectively.
For students, a room with an air conditioner is 21000-24000 baht per year, and for the room without any air conditioner is 2000-3000 baht per semester (the cost depends on the year attended).
Pedestrian access on campus
The institute is divided into 4 parts by a rail track and a road that has a lot of cars passing by with high speed. So, creating skywalk is very important as infrastructure security, to support and encourage students to walk around the campus safely. The skywalk has been created to connect all the main buildings of every part. It also encourages students to exercise more by walking, this help improve students’ health and quality of life.
Sustainable standards for buildings
King Mongkut’s Institute of Ladkrabang is constructing two building which are High Technology building and a new building of Faculty of Education. Those buildings were designed as following the sustainable, and green building standard of Thai’s Rating of Energy and Environmental Sustainability –
TREES (based on and adapted from the USGBC's LEED system) and won two energy conservation design awards 2018 from Ministry of Energy. It was inspired by Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM).
